AbdominoplastyFind out what you need to do to prepare for your upcoming cosmetic surgery.

Many patients complain about that pesky belly fat that they just can’t seem to get rid of, no matter how much dieting and exercising they do. While having excess fat around the middle can certainly affect your confidence, your Elmhurst plastic surgeon Dr. Alexandrina Saulis has the answer to how to get rid of this problem once and for all. Find out how to prepare for your upcoming abdominoplasty.

Also known as a tummy tuck, this cosmetic procedure performed by your Elmhurst plastic surgeon removes stubborn fat from around the midsection, a challenging area of the body for weight loss. Before your procedure, there are certain things you will need to do to start preparing:

Stay healthy: It’s important that you remain at your absolute healthiest prior to your surgery. By getting rest and eating well, you can protect yourself against infections. If you do become ill before your procedure, it’s important to tell to your Oak Brook plastic surgeon right away.

Quit smoking: Smoking can impede the recovery process, which means that you may experience post-surgical symptoms longer than someone who doesn’t smoke. Talk to your Hinsdale cosmetic surgeon about the best ways to help you quit smoking so that your recovery goes smoothly.

Get prescriptions filled: If there are any medications that we have prescribed for after your surgery (e.g. pain medications; antibiotics) you will want to have those at your disposal. Don’t wait until after your procedure to fill your medications. If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, it will be easy to treat your problems right away rather than waiting for your medication to be filled.

Stop taking certain medications: If you are taking any over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like aspirin or Ibuprofen, as well as supplements like St. John’s wort, you will need to stop taking these medications about five days before your surgery. That’s why it’s imperative that you tell your Oak Brook plastic surgeon about all medications and vitamins you are currently taking so you know which ones are safe to take before and after your tummy tuck.

Have post-surgical supplies ready: It’s important to get your home set up and at your disposal to accommodate your healing needs after your procedure. You may feel tired or sore and want to ease your symptoms with certain medical supplies. Have them already at your bedside or where ever you will use them most prior to your surgery.

Don’t eat after midnight: As your Elmhurst cosmetic surgeon will tell you, it’s important that you don’t eat or drink anything after midnight on the day of your surgery.

Before your procedure, your Hinsdale plastic surgeon will sit down with you and discuss everything you will need to know to prepare you for your abdominoplasty.
