Could a tummy tuck provide you with the tighter figure you want?

There are many people out there that despite a healthy diet and regular exercise aren’t seeing the results they want, particularly around abdominoplastytheir midsection. There are a lot of factors that play into excess fat and skin around the stomach and sides; fortunately, our Oak Brook, Elmhurst, and Hinsdale, IL, plastic surgeon Dr. Alexandrina Saulis offers abdominoplasty to help you achieve the appearance you are looking for.

What is abdominoplasty?

You’ve probably heard of an abdominoplasty being called by its colloquial name, “tummy tuck”. The goal of our Oak Brook, Elmhurst, and Hinsdale, IL, cosmetic surgeon is to make your stomach flatter by removing excess fat and skin while also tightening the abdominal muscles.

Even though an abdominoplasty shouldn’t be confused with liposuction, this is still considered a major surgery so it’s important to know more about it before deciding whether it’s right for you.

What happens during an abdominoplasty?

This will depend on whether you are getting a complete or partial abdominoplasty. During a complete tummy tuck, an incision will be made across the stomach from hipbone to hipbone. From there, we will remove excess fat and skin from the area while also repositioning the belly button.

If you are dealing with excess fat just below the navel, then a partial abdominoplasty may be all you need. While we will still remove excess fat and skin from this area, we won’t need to move the belly button.

How long is the recovery period?

You will have to wear a binder around your stomach for several weeks, which will provide the area with support and prevent fluid from building up. You will need to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity during your recovery period.

You will continue to come in for follow-up appointments to make sure everything is healing properly. During this time we can chat with you about when it might be safe to return to your regular physical activities.

Who is a good candidate for a tummy tuck?

Healthy men and women who are looking to remove excess fat and skin around their midsections may find a tummy tuck to be the best treatment option for them. This can be a great cosmetic treatment for women who have excess skin or weakening abdominal muscles due to pregnancies, as well as patients who used to be obese but lost a lot of weight and are dealing with loose skin as a result.

A tummy tuck isn’t ideal for patients who still want to lose a lot of weight or for patients who are still considering getting pregnant, as pregnancy can affect the results of your abdominoplasty.

Dr. Alexandrina Saulis is proud to offer comprehensive cosmetic surgery in Hinsdale, Naperville, Oak Brook and Elmhurst, IL. Call Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery today if you are ready to find out whether you could be a good candidate for abdominoplasty.

Are you thinking about breast augmentation surgery? Many women do consider it, and when they undergo the procedure, they reportbreast augmentation increased satisfaction with their personal appearance. So learn all you can first before saying yes to this common plastic surgery and consult with only the best surgeon for your procedure, Dr. Alexandrina Saulis of Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Saulis has perfected the art of breast augmentation in her Oakbrook, Hinsdale and Elmhurst, IL area practice.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is an aesthetic surgery aimed at enhancing overall breast size, shape or volume. Many of Dr. Saulis' patients report a dissatisfaction with the size of their breasts when compared with their hips, or they dislike being "lopsided"--that is, one breast is noticeably larger than the other. This disparity in size often can be noticed even through a woman's clothing, with the left breast usually being the larger one.

Finally, women of child-bearing years experience a loss of breast volume after pregnancy. Alternatively, when a child is no longer nursing, a young mother's breast tissue shrinks and sags.

So the answer to these disconcerting cosmetic problems can be breast augmentation, a simple and usually successful way to change breast size and shape. This procedure is exceptionally popular as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports: approximately 290,000 surgeries of this type were performed in the United States in 2016 alone.

What's the procedure like in Oakbrook, Hinsdale and Elmhurst?

To undergo this surgery, your overall health must be good, and you must be willing to be patient with the recovery time which is a full four weeks. Dr. Saulis does the surgery under general anesthesia and performs the procedure through the IMF incision under the breast. The breast implant is placed subpectoral to decrease implant contracture rates and optimize breast tissue visualization on a mammogram which is obscured with implants placed above the muscle (missing early breast cancers).

Regarding the breast implants themselves, Dr. Saulis almost exclusively uses silicone gel implants which are much more natural than saline implants and have almost double the shelf-life. Saline implants are filled on the table and have an access valve that can begin to leak after a while. Silicone gel implants are pre-filled at the Mentor factory with a double disk shield preventing any leaks or variation or change in implant volume. Also, implant "leak" and sudden rupture with deflation is avoided with silicone gel implants. They do require a larger incision (about 2-3 inches but it is well hidden in the inframammary crease and the scarring is generally excellent in time).

Many patients are trading out their saline implants for silicone gel for the above-stated reasons. In addition, silicone gel implants have a thicker rubberized silicone shell than saline filled implants, last longer, come in all volumes and three profiles and are softer and much more natural than saline. They also correct any issues of rippling a patient may have with a saline implant.

After effects

Breast augmentation in Oakbrook, Hinsdale and Elmhurst does cause soreness, swelling and bruising which resolves over a period of weeks. Stitches stay in place for about ten days, and most patients take up their normal activities within several days. However, anything strenuous should be avoided for up to four weeks to ensure good healing. Dr. Saulis offers patients post op pain control with an On-Q pain pump that allows for local anesthetic or numbing medication to be used for pain after surgery. This significantly minimizes pain and reduces the recovery time, and allows patients to avoid narcotic use after surgery.

Find out if this is the right procedure for removing excess weight and getting the body you want.liposuction

We know that losing weight isn’t an easy task. While working out regularly and eating a healthy balanced diet are certainly crucial factors for leading a healthier life and shedding the pounds, we know that dealing with stubborn areas of fat can be frustrating and can impact your self-esteem. Our Hinsdale, IL, plastic surgeon Dr. Alexandrina Saulis is here to explain more about liposuction and what could make you an ideal candidate for this procedure.

What is liposuction?

This surgical procedure is used to remove fat from one or more areas of the body to reshape and contour the body the way you want. Liposuction can be performed virtually anywhere and is most commonly used to treat stubborn fat around the buttock, stomach, sides, thighs, back, neck and chin.

A small instrument is placed under the skin and the fat is suctioned out using this vacuum-like tool. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, so the patient will be completely asleep.

What makes someone a good candidate for liposuction?

When people hear liposuction they often think of it as a way to lose weight, but it’s important that you don’t see this cosmetic procedure as a weight loss solution. It is truly meant to enhance and contour the body, but it shouldn’t be considered a treatment for obesity because the results are too subtle. Good skin elasticity and those within 30 percent of their ideal body weight are good candidates for liposuction.

If you are a healthy individual who is realistic about the goals you want to achieve through cosmetic surgery in Hinsdale, IL, then liposuction could give you with the results you want. If you are dealing with chronic health problems then you may be at a higher risk for certain surgical complications, so we will need to perform a thorough medical evaluation beforehand to determine whether liposuction is safe for you.

Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers comprehensive cosmetic care to meet all of your aesthetic needs. We are proud to serve the Hinsdale, Naperville, Oak Brook and Elmhurst, IL, areas. Schedule a consultation with us and get a new you for the New Year.

Tags: Breast Lift

Have your once-perky breasts started to sag and droop? Changes in your breasts are common due to aging, childbirth, nursing and weight breast liftloss. Luckily, you don't have to live with unwelcome changes to your silhouette. Elmhurst, IL, plastic surgeon Dr. Alexandrina Saulis explains how a breast lift could restore your appearance.

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that relieves sagging by reshaping breast tissue, removing loose skin and repositioning your nipple and areola. Incisions from a breast lift are usually hidden under the areola and the crease of the breast.

Who can benefit from a breast lift?

Although the best way to tell if you're a good candidate for a breast lift is with a visit to our Elmhurst office, a breast lift may be a good idea if:

  • You have significant sagging: If your nipples are lower than the crease under your breast, you're probably a good candidate for a breast lift.
  • Your nipples point downward: When your breast tissue sags, your nipples may no longer face outward. A breast lift can restore the normal position of your nipples.
  • Your breasts are different sizes: In addition to lifting your breasts, the surgery can also make your breasts more symmetrical by reshaping them.
  • Your weight is stable: Your results may not last as long if you constantly lose and regain weight.
  • You aren't planning on becoming pregnant: Because pregnancy and breastfeeding can contribute to sagging, it's best to postpone a breast lift until after you've completed your family.
  • You want to look better in your clothing: Sagging breasts can affect the way your clothing fits and make you feel self-conscious on the beach. Lifting your breasts can boost your self-esteem and make you feel proud of your physique once again.
  • You're considering breast augmentation: Breast augmentation and breast lifts are often performed at the same time.
  • You're healthy: You must be in good health and free from any conditions or diseases that affect healing. Because smoking can also slow healing, you may not be a good candidate if you smoke.

Are you interested in learning if a breast lift is the right choice for you? Schedule an appointment with Elmhurst, IL, plastic surgeon Dr. Alexandrina Saulis by calling (630) 920-9404.
