Are you thinking about breast augmentation surgery? Many women do consider it, and when they undergo the procedure, they reportbreast augmentation increased satisfaction with their personal appearance. So learn all you can first before saying yes to this common plastic surgery and consult with only the best surgeon for your procedure, Dr. Alexandrina Saulis of Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Saulis has perfected the art of breast augmentation in her Oakbrook, Hinsdale and Elmhurst, IL area practice.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is an aesthetic surgery aimed at enhancing overall breast size, shape or volume. Many of Dr. Saulis' patients report a dissatisfaction with the size of their breasts when compared with their hips, or they dislike being "lopsided"--that is, one breast is noticeably larger than the other. This disparity in size often can be noticed even through a woman's clothing, with the left breast usually being the larger one.

Finally, women of child-bearing years experience a loss of breast volume after pregnancy. Alternatively, when a child is no longer nursing, a young mother's breast tissue shrinks and sags.

So the answer to these disconcerting cosmetic problems can be breast augmentation, a simple and usually successful way to change breast size and shape. This procedure is exceptionally popular as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports: approximately 290,000 surgeries of this type were performed in the United States in 2016 alone.

What's the procedure like in Oakbrook, Hinsdale and Elmhurst?

To undergo this surgery, your overall health must be good, and you must be willing to be patient with the recovery time which is a full four weeks. Dr. Saulis does the surgery under general anesthesia and performs the procedure through the IMF incision under the breast. The breast implant is placed subpectoral to decrease implant contracture rates and optimize breast tissue visualization on a mammogram which is obscured with implants placed above the muscle (missing early breast cancers).

Regarding the breast implants themselves, Dr. Saulis almost exclusively uses silicone gel implants which are much more natural than saline implants and have almost double the shelf-life. Saline implants are filled on the table and have an access valve that can begin to leak after a while. Silicone gel implants are pre-filled at the Mentor factory with a double disk shield preventing any leaks or variation or change in implant volume. Also, implant "leak" and sudden rupture with deflation is avoided with silicone gel implants. They do require a larger incision (about 2-3 inches but it is well hidden in the inframammary crease and the scarring is generally excellent in time).

Many patients are trading out their saline implants for silicone gel for the above-stated reasons. In addition, silicone gel implants have a thicker rubberized silicone shell than saline filled implants, last longer, come in all volumes and three profiles and are softer and much more natural than saline. They also correct any issues of rippling a patient may have with a saline implant.

After effects

Breast augmentation in Oakbrook, Hinsdale and Elmhurst does cause soreness, swelling and bruising which resolves over a period of weeks. Stitches stay in place for about ten days, and most patients take up their normal activities within several days. However, anything strenuous should be avoided for up to four weeks to ensure good healing. Dr. Saulis offers patients post op pain control with an On-Q pain pump that allows for local anesthetic or numbing medication to be used for pain after surgery. This significantly minimizes pain and reduces the recovery time, and allows patients to avoid narcotic use after surgery.

Find out how breast augmentation has improved both the bodies and self-esteem of countless women and how it might help you.

Anytime someone chooses to get plastic surgery, they are taking a big leap toward their cosmetic goals. Our plastic surgeon, Dr. breast augmentationAlexandrina Saulis serving Hinsdale, Naperville, Oak Brook, and Elmhurst, IL, makes it possible for anyone to achieve the physique or appearance they might not have been born with but dream of having. We understand that some people may still be on the fence about whether to get a breast augmentation, and we are here to tell you why you may want to consider this cosmetic treatment.

To Boost Your Confidence

If you find yourself feeling less confidence in the way your body looks and a lot has to do with your breasts then getting a breast augmentation may actually greatly improve your confidence levels. In fact, about 92 percent of woman who got breast augmentation actually reported higher self-esteem and 64 percent said that they had a better quality of life after their surgery.

If You’ve Lost Weight Recently

If you’ve lost a significant amount of weight you may also notice that your breasts aren’t as full as they were. Getting a breast augmentation can help improve the shape and fullness of your chest after profound weight loss.

If Your Breasts aren’t Symmetrical

There are many factors that can contribute to asymmetrical breasts. This is a fairly common problem but if one breast is significantly larger than the other it can affect how someone feels about their appearance. Breast augmentation can even out the size and look of your chest.

If Your Breasts Have Changed After Pregnancy

While women’s breasts will get larger during pregnancy and nursing, once nursing is over some women find that their breasts get smaller or start to droop. Fortunately, breast augmentation is a great way to restore your breasts to the way they looked pre-baby. And if you do decide to get pregnant in the future, breast implants will not impact your ability to nurse nor will it negatively affect your baby.

If You’ve Had a Mastectomy

If you are a breast cancer survivor, you may be considering breast reconstruction. While this is a bit more involved than just getting a breast augmentation, this is part of the process. Our Hinsdale, Naperville, Oak Brook, and Elmhurst, IL reconstructive surgeon is here to help you achieve your cosmetic goals so that you have a body you feel confident in.

If you want to feel great about the way you look and want to get a breast augmentation in Hinsdale, Naperville, Oak Brook, and Elmhurst, IL, then it’s time to talk to the cosmetic expert at Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery today. Book your consultation with Dr. Saulis and see what we could achieve together!

You may never have considered plastic surgery before, but if you've adopted an appropriate diet and exercise plan to help you improve liposuctionyour look and still have areas that won't respond to your lifestyle changes, liposuction, abdominoplasty or breast augmentation can help you achieve the body you've been working for. At Aesthetic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Oak Brook and Naperville, IL, Dr. Alexandrina Saulis is board-certified in performing procedures like liposuctions, abdominoplasty and breast augmentation to help her patients improve their appearance and confidence about their bodies. Here is a brief overview of the process for each procedure.

What is an abdominoplasty?
An abdominoplasty, often referred to as a "tummy tuck", is a surgical operation involving the removal of excess fat and skin from the abdomen and the tightening of the muscles of the abdominal wall. It is popular for patients who have experienced excessive weight loss, or for women after pregnancy.

What is the procedure like?
A typical abdominoplasty takes about two to five hours. The patient is given a sedative during the procedure. A full abdominoplasty includes a horizontally-oriented incision between the pubic hairline and the naval. Once the skin is lifted, the abdominal muscles will be repaired. A second incision is sometimes necessary around the belly button to remove excess skin. Once this is finished, the upper abdomen skin is pulled down and the extra skin is trimmed. A new opening for the belly button is created.

What is breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a popular surgical procedure where breast implants are used to increase the size of your breasts or restore volume. It is also a popular procedure for individuals after excessive weight loss or pregnancy. This procedure can increase fullness, improve balance to your figure, and the projection of your breasts.

What is the procedure like?
After a sedative is given, Inconspicuous incisions are made to minimize visual scarring. Popular incisions include:

  • Peri-areolar incision: This is a half circle around the lower edge of the areola.
  • Infra-mammary incision: This is made in the fold where the lower part of the breast meets the chest wall.
  • Trans-axillary Incision: This is made in the armpit. Once the incision is made a channel to the breast is created, as well as a pocket for the implant.

Your doctor will discuss the best option for you based on desired breast size and the type of implant. After the incision is made, an implant made of a silicone outer shell will be placed into a pocket. This is either, under the pectoral muscle, or directly behind the breast tissue over the pectoral muscle. The implant will be filled with a saline solution until the desired size is reached. Once the incision is closed, drainage tubes may be inserted to remove excess liquid.

What is liposuction?

Often shortened to "lipo" by both doctors and patients, liposuction is a cosmetic procedure offered by your Oak Brook and Naperville plastic surgeon, Dr. Alexandrina Saulis, that eliminates excess fat deposits that have built up around the thighs, hips, abdomen, back, upper arms and even the chin and neck.

What is the procedure like?
A liposuction procedure  starts with an infusion of local anesthetic to help to numb the targeted areas. Tiny incisions in the skin will allow a thin tube, called a cannula, to loosen the structure of the fat deposits, which will then be suctioned out of the body through a vacuum attached to the tube. Your Oak Brook and Naperville plastic surgeon will discuss your goals with you and evaluate your condition to determine if you are a good candidate for liposuction. Generally, healthy adult patients whose weight falls within 30% of where they want to be - for example, a person who weighs about 220 pounds and whose target weight is 150 would fit into this category - and who are dealing with stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to good diet and exercise habits make excellent candidates.

If you're wondering about any of these procedures, we encourage you to contact Aesthetic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Oak Brook and Naperville, IL to set up a consultation with Dr. Alexandrina Saulis. We look forward to helping you!

Find out more about this cosmetic procedure and what it can do for your appearance and self-esteem.

Breast AugmentationEveryone wants to feel confident and happy in their skin, but sometimes we aren’t always lucky to be born with the perfect body. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t achieve it with a little help from your Naperville plastic surgeon. If you are considering how fuller breasts could give you the curvier figure you want, then you aren’t alone. In fact, breast augmentation is one of the top five cosmetic procedures performed in the US. However, before you opt for this treatment, find out more about the procedure and what you can expect from your results.

What is breast augmentation?

This surgical procedure uses either fat or implants, usually made from silicone, to help increase the overall size of the breast.

The benefits of breast augmentation

Breast augmentation can be a wonderful way to improve someone’s confidence and self-esteem. It can also help improve the overall shape and look of your body, particularly for those who’ve lost breast volume after significant weight loss or pregnancy.

Furthermore, it can also be an ideal option for patients looking to reconstruct their breasts after having a mastectomy or experiencing a traumatic injury.

What breast augmentation won’t do

It’s important to keep expectations realistic when it comes to any cosmetic surgery. That’s why we always sit down and discuss your treatment goals during the consultation phase. We always want to make sure that you understand the results you’ll achieve through breast augmentation or any procedure your Naperville plastic surgeon performs.

While breast augmentation is a great way to get shapelier breasts, this surgery will not fix drooping or sagging breasts. However, a breast lift can also be used along with breast augmentation to help increase both the volume and the shape if this is the look you want to achieve.

Does breast augmentation sound like the right cosmetic option for you? If you are looking to improve your look before the summer, there has never been a better time to see your Naperville and Oak Brook plastic surgeon, Dr. Alexandrina S. Saulis at Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Call our office to schedule a consultation!
